About the journal

Engineer the system.

Orbit / Cable is an independent technical publication at the intersection of satellite communications, enterprise networks and optical infrastructure.

Two markets. A shared engineering reality.

Australian outback sites, maritime operations and rural households face distance, power and physical-access constraints. German manufacturers, rural communities and European backbone operators face their own combinations of rollout, integration and continuity challenges. The underlying engineering principles connect these problems, while regional authorisation and service availability remain specific.

What we publish

Our field guides cover orbital fundamentals, RF equipment, subsea and terrestrial optics, hybrid routing, network security and regional deployment. Each includes an explanatory diagram, practical decision points and links to official technical or regulatory references.

Our editorial approach

We distinguish physical limits from commercial claims, illustrative calculations from measured benchmarks, and announced programmes from delivered services. The guides are educational editorial analysis, not reports of site visits or laboratory tests. We do not claim carrier affiliation, equipment certification or an independent audit of provider performance.

Who the guides are for

Network engineers, IT managers, procurement teams and technically curious consumers. Read-time and difficulty badges help orient a reader; project design still requires the relevant professional expertise and local approvals.

A useful guide makes the trade-off visible.

Our aim is to help readers ask better questions, specify measurable requirements and prepare for the day their primary connection fails.
